Recursion: how a signature behaves over time

A signature is not a fixed label. It is something that moves when you fold it.

What recursion is asking

Your signature is a snapshot: what kind of motion you are right now. Recursion asks the question a snapshot cannot. What does that motion do when it keeps folding back on itself? Not once. Five times deep, k0 through k4. Read the field signature at every fold and watch where it goes.

The one piece of math. At each fold, the field signature is the digital root of that fold's particle total: add the digits, and keep adding until one digit is left. 38 → 3+8 = 11 → 1+1 = 2. That is why a field signature is always 1 through 9. String those digits across the five folds and you have the signature's orbit.
Nothing here is settling. Underneath the orbit the stream never stops growing: 8, 37, 184, 822, 3713, quadrupling every fold. So when the same digit appears twice, that is a collision among only nine possible values while the stream explodes beneath it. It is not the system coming to rest. Nothing comes to rest.

The three shapes, and what each one means

Returns
ends where it started

It comes home. Fold it, press it, compound it, and it re-asserts what it already was. Recursion cannot dislodge this system from itself.

Repeats
ends on a repeated digit, not the start

It relocates and holds. It does not come back to where it began. It arrives somewhere else and stays there. Compounding changes this system, and the change does not reverse.

Wanders
never returns, never repeats

It never locks. No coming home, no arriving. It keeps moving under compounding. This is not instability. It is a system whose nature is to stay in motion.

The finding worth teaching: of the 129 orbits in this class, 107 wander. Only 11 come home and 11 relocate. Most systems, folded on themselves, do not settle. That is the headline, and it is worth sitting with before anyone reads their own.

Reading three layers at once

Every person has three orbits, and they often disagree. That disagreement is where the real reading lives.

Source is what your internal power does when folded. Expression is what how-you-show-up does. Whole is the complete system. A stable core with a restless expression is a different person from a restless core with a consistent face, and both are common. Read all three before you say anything about anyone.

The class

Each card is one person: three orbits, three shapes, and what the combination says.

Restless core, consistent face. The internal power never settles under pressure, but the expression comes home every time. Expect someone who reads as steady from the outside while the inside keeps moving. The consistency is real, and it is not the whole picture. Layer by layer: source the core never locks. Under compounding it keeps moving, never returning and never fixing. Expression comes home. However it shifts under pressure, it lands back as itself. Whole system never locks. It keeps moving, all the way down.

Nothing locks anywhere. Source, expression, and whole system all keep moving under recursion. This system does not have a resting form to return to or arrive at. Teach it as motion that stays motion: it is not unstable, it is simply not the kind of system that settles. Layer by layer: source the core never locks. Under compounding it keeps moving, never returning and never fixing. Expression never locks. How this system shows up keeps moving under compounding. Whole system never locks. It keeps moving, all the way down.

One note for you, not for the room. The k0 value on every card is validated. The folds past it are computed on a table still being reconciled, so individual trajectories may shift. The shapes and what they mean are solid; treat a specific person's path as a working reading, not a final one.

Compatibility over time

What two systems make together, and whether it lasts as it deepens

The whole idea in one question. Take two people. See what each one produces working alone. Now join them and see what they produce together. Does the pairing make more than the two of them make apart, or less? That is compatibility here. Not whether they like each other. Whether the joining generates or costs.
It gives

Together they make something neither makes alone. Work exists that would not exist if they were apart.

It costs

Together they make less than either makes alone. Each would produce more working separately.

It is neutral

The pairing lands in the middle. It neither adds nor takes.

Every pairing is read on two channels. Speaking is what happens when they express, put things into words, voice it. Working is what happens when they operate as whole systems together. These two often disagree, and when they do, that disagreement is the most useful thing on the page. A couple can sound wonderful and run badly. A couple can run beautifully and struggle to say a word of it.

And then: does it last?

The second question is what happens as the pairing deepens. Not calendar time, but depth: what the joining does as it compounds, folds in on itself, gets tested. Six shapes turn up:

Sustains
It keeps giving at every level. Depth does not cost it.
Builds
It starts under and comes up. Early friction is not the story; it gets better with depth.
Front-loaded
It works at the surface and thins as it deepens. The early ease is not something to coast on.
Never lifts
It takes at every level. There is no depth at which the joining pays for itself.
Volatile
It swings. Good seasons and hard seasons, no settled middle.
Mixed
It crosses back and forth without settling into a posture.
One honest note before you teach from this. The starting read (what a pairing gives or costs now) is on validated ground. The over-time shapes are computed on a table that is not yet reconciled, so treat the trajectories as the best current reading rather than settled fact; they may shift. Also: the joining is order-sensitive, and none of this is a verdict on a relationship. It describes what a joined field produces, not whether two people should be together.

Jonathan and Ariane sound better together than they run together. When they speak, express, put something into words, the pairing makes more than either would alone. But as whole working systems, joined, they produce less than either would apart. This is the classic split, and it is the one to teach from: the voice finds something the machinery does not. Expect to see two people who connect easily in conversation and then struggle when it comes to actually operating together, sharing a task, running a household, making a plan hold. The ease in the talking is real. It is just not evidence that the doing will work. Over time. And it swings. This pairing has seasons: stretches where it clearly gives, stretches where it clearly takes, and no settled middle. Expect the good spells and the hard spells both, and do not read either one as the whole truth. On the expression side it starts strong and thins.

Single, concatenated, coupled

Every relationship read three ways across the five folds. Single is each person alone. Concatenated is the two merged into one stream, folded as a single system, what they become. Coupled is that merged output minus the average of the two apart, what the joining adds or subtracts. Scroll sideways through the groups; each anchor is folded once alone as the spine, and everyone in the group is folded against it.

returns — comes home to its opening state repeats — settles on a repeated state wanders — never returns, never settles the rust line in the middle panel is the merged system; the dashed line is the two solos averaged. The gap between them is the coupling.

On his own Richard is the sturdiest of the four: he opens Terminal and then holds two straight folds at Recursor, 83 and 83, a sustained strong middle almost no one else here has. Merged with his mother, that middle disappears. The joined system opens Terminal at 83, matching both their strong starts, then settles into a repeating Transformer in the low sixties and stays. It is the only pairing in the group that finds a level and holds it, but the level sits below what Richard reaches alone, and the coupling is negative at every fold, the steadiest drain in the set. The merged orbit carries her signature, not his. A stable union that costs: two capable systems producing one settled, lower one, in her register.

Ryan alone is even, mid-to-high seventies throughout, unremarkable in the good sense. Merged, the pairing runs on a different clock than its own members. At the middle fold it craters, the joined output dropping to 51 while the two of them average around 73. At the very next fold it does the opposite, surging to 81 while both sag. The union produces when the individuals thin and thins when they produce. And alone among her children, this merge tracks his orbit rather than hers.

This is the standout. Ava-Marie opens Recursor at 87, the highest opening anywhere in the group, and she and her mother share that re-seeding gate at the surface. Through the middle the join costs like the others. Then it does what none of the rest do: it returns, closing back on Recursor, and at that final deepest fold the coupling turns sharply positive, +18. Every other pairing here bleeds negative or spikes once and falls. This one bottoms out and comes home to the gate producing more than the two apart. The only case where the strong entity and the giving union agree, and it is mother and youngest, on the gate they both open.
