Recursion: how a signature behaves over time
A signature is not a fixed label. It is something that moves when you fold it.
What recursion is asking
Your signature is a snapshot: what kind of motion you are right now. Recursion asks the question a snapshot cannot. What does that motion do when it keeps folding back on itself? Not once. Five times deep, k0 through k4. Read the field signature at every fold and watch where it goes.
38 → 3+8 = 11 → 1+1 = 2. That is why a field signature is always 1 through 9. String those digits across the five folds and you have the signature's orbit.8, 37, 184, 822, 3713, quadrupling every fold. So when the same digit appears twice, that is a collision among only nine possible values while the stream explodes beneath it. It is not the system coming to rest. Returns

The finding worth teaching: of the 129 orbits in this class, 107 wander. Only 11 come home and 11 relocate. Most systems, folded on themselves, do not settle. That is the headline, and it is worth sitting with before anyone reads their own.
Reading three layers at once
Every person has three orbits, and they often disagree. That disagreement is where the real reading lives.

What two systems make together, and whether it lasts as it deepens
It gives

The pairing lands in the middle. It neither adds nor takes.
Every pairing is read on two channels. Speaking is what happens when they express, put things into words, voice it. Working is what happens when they operate as whole systems together. These two often disagree, and when they do, that disagreement is the most useful thing on the page. A couple can sound wonderful and run badly. A couple can run beautifully and struggle to say a word of it.
And then: does it last?
The second question is what happens as the pairing deepens. Not calendar time, but depth: what the joining does as it compounds, folds in on itself, gets tested. Six shapes turn up:

Single, concatenated, coupled
Every relationship read three ways across the five folds. Single is each person alone. Concatenated is the two merged into one stream, folded as a single system, what they become. Coupled is that merged output minus the average of the two apart, what the joining adds or subtracts. Scroll sideways through the groups; each anchor is folded once alone as the spine, and everyone in the group is folded against it.
Marie-Carmel Edelcia Pierre
Richard eldest
On his own Richard is the sturdiest of the four: he opens Terminal and then holds two straight folds at Recursor, 83 and 83, a sustained strong middle almost no one else here has. Merged with his mother, that middle disappears. The joined system opens Terminal at 83, matching both their strong starts, then settles into a repeating Transformer in the low sixties and stays. It is the only pairing in the group that finds a level and holds it, but the level sits below what Richard reaches alone, and the coupling is negative at every fold, the steadiest drain in the set. The merged orbit carries her signature, not his. A stable union that costs: two capable systems producing one settled, lower one, in her register.
Ryan child
Ryan alone is even, mid-to-high seventies throughout, unremarkable in the good sense. Merged, the pairing runs on a different clock than its own members. At the middle fold it craters, the joined output dropping to 51 while the two of them average around 73. At the very next fold it does the opposite, surging to 81 while both sag. The union produces when the individuals thin and thins when they produce. And alone among her children, this merge tracks his orbit rather than hers.
Ava-Marie youngest
This is the standout. Ava-Marie opens Recursor at 87, the highest opening anywhere in the group, and she and her mother share that re-seeding gate at the surface. Through the middle the join costs like the others. Then it does what none of the rest do: it returns, closing back on Recursor, and at that final deepest fold the coupling turns sharply positive, +18. Every other pairing here bleeds negative or spikes once and falls. This one bottoms out and comes home to the gate producing more than the two apart. The only case where the strong entity and the giving union agree, and it is mother and youngest, on the gate they both open.
Rhye partner
Her partner is the most violent coupling in the set: minus 22, plus 20, minus 22, slamming between costing hard and generating hard with no settling. Yet the joined system is the only one of her four to close on Anchor, ground and stability, at the surface archetype. So the partnership aims at stability and arrives there, but by the roughest road, and the joining ends deeply negative. Like Ryan's, this merge carries his orbit, not hers.

The merged system is modest on its own, averaging 71, but the joining lifts it above the two solos. The union is worth more than the parts here. The joined orbit tracks neither cleanly.
Nicholas child
Nicholas alone wanders, opening Executor at 77 and reaching Terminal at its peak. Merged with Judith, the system wanders, opening Recursor and closing Amplifier without resolving, peaking at fold 0 (85) and thinning at fold 1 (47). The coupling swings hard, +24 at its best and -21 at its worst, a high-variance union that never settles into cost or gift. Strong entity and giving union both, the two readings agreeing. The joined orbit tracks Nicholas.
Gabriela Teresa Ochoa
Olivia sister
Olivia alone wanders, opening Integrator at 75 and reaching Amplifier at its peak. Merged with Gabriela, the system settles, repeating Amplifier at the deep folds, peaking at fold 4 (81) and thinning at fold 1 (29).
